Washington Post: RU-486 making abortion a private affair

As the fight against abortion continues, it is important to remember that abortions are done not only surgically in a clinic, but chemically as well. The Washington Post ran an article looking at how usage of RU-486 has risen as surgical abortions have dropped. A supporter of RU-486 says the baby-killing drug is going a long way towards normalizing abortion. The article is misleading, however, because it does not take into account that while the use of RU-486 has risen, total abortions (both chemical and surgical) have declined.

RU-486 has been linked to a number of deaths, health complications and future fertility problems. The label on RU-486 says in clinical trials, between 4.5 and 7.9% of women required surgical intervention. Also, up to 8% of women experienced some type of bleeding for 30 days or more in trials.
